Are you sold-out to Jesus, totally “in”, totally “down with that”? Or… is there a lot of you NOT? Are you double-minded? Jesus Himself said,
“You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart, and
with all your soul, and
with all your strength, and
with all your mind;
and your neighbor as yourself.”
– Luke 10:27
(Also: Matthew 22:37; Mark 12:30)
That’s a lot! All. How much do you love God? You have a big heart, a deep, deep soul, lots of strength, and a huge mind! What’s in there?! Are you all for God in all of you, or …partially?
What Jesus was saying here, basically, is: Your life must be totally given-over to Jesus, without reservation. Your love is revealed by how much love for God is in your heart, your soul, and your mind. Your love for God is revealed by how much strength is in your love for Him. Your love for God is revealed by how much you love your neighbor. Kind of humbling. Yes?
Do you think God will accept half-way-believers? There is a huge consequence to not being totally committed to Jesus.
do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who will render to each person according to his deeds:
7 to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;
8 but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. – Romans 2: verses 4-8
Two types
There are two types of folk:
1. The saved: “those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality” (verse 7)
2. The unsaved:
— “4…you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God” – Romans 2:4-5
— “those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness” – Romans 2: verse 8
— “For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.” – Romans 10:3
Consequences
There are two types of consequence:
“Strive to enter through the narrow door;
for many, I tell you,
will seek to enter and will not be able.”
– Luke 13:24
