Satan is alive and real, and lives on planet earth in a dimension we cannot see. He is a fallen angel. And he is total evil.
To get a small glimpse of what Satan is like, it’s important to realize that only God Himself is more powerful in all the universe. Lucifer (his real name) was the most powerful of all God’s created angels. He carried-out God’s orders. And he is still powerful.

Somewhere in the course of angelic history Lucifer became vain, arrogant, proud. He crossed the line.
The common image of Satan is ugly and grotesque. But actually Satan was an angel of light. An outstanding creation of God. He was so great, he thought he could become as mighty as God. He fomented evil and a third of all God’s angels joined his rebellion. God, of course, knew Lucifer’s rebellious heart – and threw him out of His Kingdom. God actually cast him onto earth. Now Satan and his fallen angels (which we call demons) roam with evil intentions all around earth – in another dimension.
Like a fierce lion, roaring, ravenous, out hunting for his next victim – Satan wants to diminish us, make us less than we can be, keep us from our true potential. So we have to be careful, spiritually alert at all times. Don’t let your guard down.
Be of sober spirit,
be on the alert.
Your adversary,
the devil,
prowls around
like a roaring lion,
seeking someone
to devour.
– 1 Peter 5:8
What the Devil does is – he conspires to ruin you for God. To the level that God permits, Satan will bring all manner of evil against you. But you don’t have to be ruined.
If we have accepted Christ (like the thief on the cross) we are powerful! Huge! Why? Because…
- We are not merely human. We have been born-again, made brand new creatures in Christ.
- We have the Spirit, God Himself, always in our body. Totally amazing truth.
- Plus, on assignment to us, we have numerous bodyguards, God’s loyal angels, in every moment of every hour – standing watch over us from their unseen dimension. They make sure only God’s will is done with us.
- And, we have God’s promises that put parameters of protection against the angelic powers of the Evil One.
I don’t understand it, but that’s the way it really is. There is an unseen dimension, inside and outside… in us and around us: God is inside the believer, and His angels are all around us, on the outside. So we need not fear. Just trust and obey. His Spirit is leading.
Ephesians 6:verses 10-18:
10 Finally, be strong
in the Lord and in the strength of His might.
11 Put on
the full armor of God,
so that you will be able to stand firm
against the schemes of the devil.
12 For our struggle
is not against flesh and blood,
but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness,
against the spiritual forces of wickedness
in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God,
so that you will be able to resist
in the evil day, and
having done everything, to stand firm.
14 Stand firm therefore,
having girded your loins
with truth, and
having put on the breastplate
of righteousness,15 and
having shod your feet
with the preparation of the gospel of peace;16 in addition to all,
taking up the shield of faith
with which you will be able to extinguish all
the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 And
take the helmet of salvation, and
the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit
– Ephesians 6:10-18
For the Christian, the key to a life of victory instead of defeat is to submit to God and resist the devil.
Submit therefore to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
– James 4:7
