…Who’s in charge here?
Who on earth do you think you are?
Ever hear that from your Dad when you were a kid? Good question. It usually put me in my place really fast. It was like, “Do you think YOU are the Dad here!?”
Dads are in charge when it comes to kids, at least in non-disfunctional families. He’s older, wiser, bigger, and he is the parent. After all, Dad and Mom started the family! Dad deserves respect and obedience (even after he is no longer bigger).
The child is not in charge of the family! (Except in disfunctional families.) Imagine a child in charge:
* I’d like you to run down to the grocery store and buy me 10 gallons of ice cream. Now.
* Let’s NOT sweep the house today. I’m going out with my buddies for the day. See you!
* I don’t believe in school anymore. So I’ll be at the park all day.
* Hey Daddy. I decided I’d buy that cool mountain bike. It’s on the VISA card I ordered in your name.
Now back to the real world.
Do you think you can tell God what to do? That’s acting like a five year old!
God, the God, not some little god, is our Father – based on the reality that He saved us. Or have you not been saved? It behooves each of us to really examine the evidence, and make sure we are not following some “other” god. The actual God of the universe is the One you want. He is the only one that we should give credence to.
One day we will all stand before God. If we are born again, He is our Daddy (“Abba”), and we will be home! But, whether you believe in Him or not – He is our Creator God. And He, not you, will be calling the shots.
