Is there anything indicating to God that you are following Him? What would God say?
Scripture says IF we follow Christ, then we are worthy of Him. The very real reverse implication is – if we are NOT following Him in our daily living… then we are not worthy to stand in His presence on That Day. Scary thought.
John 15:14-17 You are My friends if you do what I command you.… I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain….. 17 This I command you, that you love one another.
Matthew 10:38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
Matthew 19:21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
Words are easy. Saying a prayer is easy. But “following” is the clincher. If we do not follow Christ, then our words are false. What path are you on?
“Faith without works is dead.” – James 2:14-26
When our walk does not match-up to our talk, then our talk is worthless. Jesus Himself said that the ones who follow Him will not walk in darkness. Because He is the Light, if we walk with Him, we will not be in darkness. To walk in darkness is to walk without the presence of God daily in our consciousness.
John 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
Reality is not something you declare, but rather: reality is what you are and what you do. Example:
- You can say you are a carpenter, but if you cannot cut wood and create something with it – then you are not truly a carpenter, really. Standing in a garage with your saws and hammers does not make you a carpenter. A carpenter actually builds with wood.
- You can say you are a swimmer, but if you cannot actually get to the other side of the deep end – then you are not a swimmer, really. A swimmer actually swims.
When you stand before God on That Day, He will see clearly what you have done with your life, whether or not you actually followed Him. Don’t be a fraud – be a true follower of Christ!
